This basic soup mix is the perfect convenience food to have on hand. I no longer buy canned soups. I make up a batch and store it in a quart jar. The perfect Meal in a Jar (MIJ)! by Cindy Suelzle

Ingredients
- 2 c. THRIVE Instant Milk
- 1 c. THRIVE Sour Cream Powder
- 1 tbsp. THRIVE Chefs Choice
- 2 c. Cornstarch
- 1/3 c. THRIVE Chicken Bouillon
- 1/2 c. THRIVE Chopped Onions - FD
- 1/2 tsp. Black Pepper
Directions
- The quantities for aprox 12 servings fills one quart and one pint.
- Sift together till completely mixed and store in a quart sealer. I never do, but if you want a smoother consistency, crush the FD onion.
- To prepare: whisk 1/2 c mix into 2 cups water. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer 3-5 minutes till nicely thickened, stirring constantly to prevent lumping.
- Beautiful thick creamy white sauce. Adjust to preference. Use as soup base for Cream of Mushroom Soup, Cream of Chicken, Cream of Asparagus, Cream of Broccoli, ...whatever you like ......
- Simply add about 1/4 cup of the powder you find at the bottom of a can, or crush whatever you like. Add a little bit of bigger pieces for texture.
- I would expect a reasonable shelf life on your pantry shelf in a sealed jar to be about 6 months. Personally, I wouldn't want to go much beyond that. But since it's so easy to mix up and all the ingredients are standard in your pantry anyway - no problem.
